Welcome to the Windows 10 Demo Use Case - WebAuthn (Web Authentication)

Demo Use Case Description

This demo use case will demonstrate the WebAuthn specification with the test website https://webauthn.io/ using AirID.

1. Requirements

For this use case you will require:

  1. A smart card reader of the AirID family (provided with the Evaluation-Kit)
  2. A computer running Windows 10 operating system with Bluetooth LE 4.2 enabled (if BLE is not available onboard, a separate USB Bluetooth LE Adapter is required). Please use a complete fresh system (clean Windows 10 installation) for this demo use case. 
  3. One of the following web browsers: Chrome, Firefox, or Edge


2. Setup: AirID and Bluetooth Connection

To connect your AirID with your Windows PC via Bluetooth, continue with the following steps:

Connect AirID to the power supply and charge it.

Start AirID by inserting the smart card into the card slot.

Activate Bluetooth on AirID by pressing the jog dial in the menu item "Connection" and make sure that "ON/waiting" is displayed. Also make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your host device.

To initialize the Bluetooth pairing process, select your AirID on your Windows PC via System settings » Devices » Bluetooth

For secure pairing, compare the displayed code on AirID with the code displayed on the host system and confirm the pairing code on both sides, the AirID and your host.


>> Your AirID is now connected to your device and ready to use!


3. Setup: Register and name your AirID at the test website

Before you can log into your applications with the AirID, you have to register your AirID once in the application. Make sure, that the Bluetooth Pairing have been done first and that Bluetooth is activated on both sides, the AirID and your Windows PC.

Run your web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge) and go to the test website https://webauthn.io/

Enter a name for your AirID and click on "Register".


UI Step

In order to confirm and complete the registration, the AirID asks you to push a button on the AirID.


>> Now, your AirID is ready to be used for login!


4. Login with your AirID at the test webpage

Run your web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge) and go to the test website https://webauthn.io/

Enter the name of your AirID, which you previously used for registration, and click on "Login".


UI Step

For your secure login, the login must be confirmed by pushing a button on your AirID.
