Question

What can I do if my USB Update Fails

Answer

Apart from the common ways to update your AirID, there is a 3rd option.

Sometimes Windows fails to add the correct driver to the "AirID USB Flasher" which is what needs to be present for the update process to work.

To check this you have to turn your AirID into Firmware Update Mode (AirID: Settings > Update Firmware > confirm: yes) and plug it into USB.

Now open your Windows Device Manager ( 'Windows Key' + 'X' > 'M' )

if your device manager shows your AirID as follows everything is correct and the update should work just as expected:

if the device gets as shown below here please follow the steps below:

Step-by-Step

In the above shown device manager

  1. right click und the AirID USB Flasher and select propertie
  2. go to the drivers tab and select update driver
  3. select 2nd option "Browse my computer for drivers"
  4. select "let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
  5. on the next page finish the setup by clicking "the next button" - normally this should only select and present "WindUSB Device" as driver
  6. Now the setup should run through and after a success screen the "AirID USB Flasher" should be listed normally like
  7. now without unplugging your AirID run the "winusb_flash_device.exe" again, this time it should work.
